So, the New Year is upon us.
This, for a lot of people, means trying to figure out how they are going to “improve”; how they are going to “make their life better”; how the next year will be “the year I become a super-hero version of myself”. In theory, there is nothing wrong with any of this. The problem seems to come when these ideas stem from the fact that you think you’re not good enough just as you are.
Because most of us are just fucking fine, thanks.
Just as we are. Flaws and all.
I’m all for self-improvement, as long as it comes from a place of “hey, I’m pretty damn awesome, but I could feel even more awesome if I (fill in the blank)”.
Of course, this doesn’t include assholes. Those people should really do something about that.
At any rate, before I go off and make my resolution (yes, just the one) for this year, I’m going to take a look back at some of my favorite things from 2013. Because I can. And because I don’t want to forget these things, and putting them all in one place seems like a fine idea to me. Also, it’s my blog and fuck off if you don’t like it.
PS, it’s not in my resolution for 2014 to swear less or be less of a snarky bitch.
Not only did it make me laugh, but it has given me hours and hours of fun bringing it back up over and over again to the guy that said it. There isn’t much more win than that. If only he knew how much that actually made me laugh. I’ll never tell him. That would ruin my fun.
I started watching because of a suggestion from a friend of mine, and holy fuck. American Horror Story is the best goddamned thing I have watched on television in ages. The worst part about it? I’m fucking caught up now and actually have to wait for new episodes. If you haven’t watched it yet, what the hell are you waiting for?!
I have played a lot of Diablo 3. Like, a lot. Level 60 Hardcore means I took a character to the highest level possible – without dying. In hardcore, if your character dies, that’s it. No second chances. I fucking did it, and as geeky and nerdy as that accomplishment is, it’s all fucking mine.
My best friend. Everything she said, I could say back to her, plus so much more. Made me cry. Bitch.
Oh how I mourned the loss of 10. So much so, that I couldn’t watch any of 11 until it was almost over. And then… The Day of the Doctor news. I quickly got caught up, and wound up liking Matt Smith more than I thought I would. But nothing…nothing made me weep tears of pure joy than the return of David Tennant. Of course, I wept all over again when he had to go. Again.
A picture taken by my very metal friend to show me how ‘brutal’ the conditions were in Kentucky when I was digging my way out of my house. I don’t know what my favorite part is. The fact he’s injured and still throwing the horns, the fact that during his idea of brutal he can wear shorts, or the bear slippers. Wait, it’s the bear slippers.
I laughed SO FUCKING HARD at this. In fact, if Bunny knew just how hard I laughed at her “THAT IS NOT OKAY”, she’d very likely never talk to me again. But seriously, I did. And I did again, just now.
Sometimes, I crack myself up. In the process, I’m not afraid to crack my friends up. Thankfully, they take it well. Chrissa is a yogi and posts the most inspiring pics. This one, however, inspired me to super-hero it up. Because it looked like she just landed and was about to go hulk-smash on some bitches. She totally could, too.
My friend Tim is one of those people that is kind of quiet, but whenever I see he has tweeted at me, or cc’d me on a tweet, I go immediately because I know it’s something that is going to touch me. This one touched me so much that I thought I should get it tattooed on my ass. Perfection in a RT.
In the midst of the worst flooding the province has ever seen, the Calgary Police Service wins the internets.
This was, perhaps, the best link I have ever seen regarding the WBC, and that includes the defection of Megan Phelps. Which was also pretty fucking stellar.
13. And finally… This.
The way my friend Adam came out on Facebook to his family and friends. There is nothing more fucking fabulous than this. Also, sprinkles. Nothing. More. Fabulous.
Thank you to everyone involved in making 2013 a memorable year, for these – and for so many other reasons.
I think you’re all awesome.
Happy New Year!
